Moodle app discontinued: how to use mobile

by Brian Lamb -

Hello - we are receiving reports that there are students using the Moodle mobile app and experiencing errors. That is because the Moodle is app is not supported and cannot connect.

To access Moodle on a smartphone or tablet, use a browser to go to https://moodle.tru.ca and log in with your TRU ID - TRUID@myTRU.ca (students) or username@tru.ca (for employees).

We had discontinued support for the app some time ago because there were reports the app was unreliable, that assignments/exams were not being submitted and other features not working. We are a bit surprised that some had been able to keep using it, but now that Moodle's authentication has been updated that is no longer possible. Please access Moodle through the browser, not the app.

New Moodle login, interface

by Brian Lamb -

Moodle has been upgraded to version 4.5, and has an updated login process.

  • Just click the “Login” button in the top-right corner.
  • If you're already signed into another TRU service (like email), you’ll be logged in automatically.
  • If not, you’ll sign in using your TRU ID and password and may be prompted for multi-factor authentication (MFA).  TRUID@myTRU.ca (students) or username@tru.ca (for employees).

This upgrade improves security and makes accessing Moodle easier.

If you require assistance, read the attached FAQs (PDF)  or contact IT Services at itservicedesk@tru.ca or 250-852-6800.

Library resource links are changing

by Brian Lamb -

Hello,

We want to inform users that the TRU Library is changing the system that connects you to library-licensed resources. As their announcement says:

"Whether you’re delving into a database, exploring e-books, or skimming through scholarly journals, OpenAthens ensures you can log in just once and enjoy uninterrupted access to all these resources. Whenever you see the OpenAthens icon, click “Sign in via institution,” and you’re good to go!"

As part of this change, as of May 5 existing links to library resources in your Moodle course or other materials will become broken.

We expect Open Learning course links will be updated within a week of this changeover. After May 5, campus instructors can use the Library’s Discovery Service (the big search box on the main page of the Library website) to regenerate library resource links. The updated link will automatically be OpenAthens-compatible.  Need help?  You can use the Ask the Library form or email (library@tru.ca). If you send a course reading list, including existing links and bibliographic details, they will take care of it for you.
