The course is an introduction to the present situation of Canada's Aboriginal People (identified as Indians, Métis and Inuit within the current political system), interpreted on the basis of contemporary and historical political, economic and cultural developments. Major topics include: the Indian Act, the reserve system, treaties, land claims, residential institutions, forced relocation, land dispossession, culture change, and revitalization.
