This intensive, week‑long course introduces teacher candidates to the relational, ethical, and reflective foundations of humanities pedagogy. Through experiential learning, land‑based activities, circle dialogue, and case‑based inquiry, candidates develop empathy, deep listening skills, and the capacity to build respectful relationships with students, families, and colleagues. The course emphasizes equity, diversity, and inclusion; anti‑oppressive and anti‑racist practice; and the responsibilities of educators as professionals guided by BC’s Professional Standards.
Indigenous perspectives—including relational accountability, land‑based learning, storywork, and community‑centered pedagogy—are woven throughout the course. Candidates will develop an emerging teaching philosophy grounded in cultural humility, reflective practice, and a commitment to ongoing learning.
