This directed study course provides the student with an in-depth exploration of team-based care (TBC) in healthcare settings, conceptualized as a kind of learning organization. The student will build on her existing work related to the health care system in Canada and BC and develop a better understanding of how organizational design is discussed/applied in this domain in Canada and other jurisdictions. The student will also develop an initial understanding of dynamic learning organizations via a curated set of readings.

As part of this exploration, the student will develop an approach to studying a TBC environment to understand the role of learning, deliberation, and teamwork in such environments. This will involve the development of a basic research proposal, including outlining a research methodology and approach to analysis. The course emphasizes interprofessional collaboration, systems thinking, and the potential application of learning organization principles to enhance healthcare delivery.
