This course provides students with a historical, geographical, and cultural context for understanding tourism at a local and global level.  Attention will be given to culture-specific and general frameworks to explore the richness of sociocultural diversity and reflect upon how cultural orientations and worldviews shape tourism expectations and encounters. Key concepts and topics, including sense of place, power, globalization, authenticity, commodification, and representation, will be explored in a tourism context. This course meets the TRU Intercultural Awareness criteria.
