This course offers a comprehensive introduction to child development for teaching, beginning with a survey of major theoretical models and their classroom implications. Teacher candidates investigate research on effective practices across developmental stages and diverse cultural settings, examining how relational knowing, ecological and community contexts, and early language and literacy foundations inform instruction. Throughout, Indigenous knowledge, anti-racism, equity, and social justice principles are woven into discussions of authentic assessment, proactive classroom management, and research-based strategies that foster cultural identity and achievement for all learners.
