The Consent Café is an activity-based consent, communication, and sexualized violence prevention and response educational program designed for children, youth, and young adults. Our program employs a K-16 model with the hopes of introducing prevention education early with the goal of scaffolding learning throughout every student’s educational journey.
The Consent Café was designed to bring university campuses and schools/community programs together to address and enhance the learning objectives identified in the BC Government’s Physical Health and Education provincial curriculum with a particular focus on:
- Healthy relationships;
- Healthy sexual decision-making;
- Reliable sources of health information; and
- Youth specific strategies to protect themselves and others from potential exploitation, abuse, and harm (Government of BC, 2021).
The Consent Café is a collaboration between TRU faculty and Consent Café co-founders Chelsea Corsi and and Tanya Pawliuk, TRU Wellness Centre Student Wellness Ambassadors, TRU practicum students, SD73 educational partners, and community partners such as the Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre (KSACC). Primary prevention of sexualized violence and increased sexual health and consent literacy are the goals of our program.
