Students registered in a co-op program are required to participate in this mandatory in-class Co-op 1000 course prior to the co-op work-term.  This winter career development course is designed to support students in gaining the necessary knowledge and skills essential for the continually evolving labour market, and provides them with long-term career development, planning, and assessment abilities for life-long career success.

This course prepares students for their first Co-operative Education experience by developing the skills needed to be successful in the pre-work term, on-the-job, and the post-work term reflection components of the work term.  Students will perform a pre-assessment of their work place skills, prepare their first professional resume, and will learn advanced interviewing techniques.  Students will be given instruction on labour market information, career development theory, identifying relevant job opportunities, and how to engage in a pro-active job search and referral process.
